Ibenstein Weavers Ibenstein Weavers looks back on a proud tradition of more than 50 years. Anne Ramdohr, who runs the company together with her husband Wolfgang, is the granddaughter of the founder Marianne Krafft. Initially starting just with weaving carpets Ibenstein also began producing beautiful fabrics, woven from natural yarns, such as wild Kalahari silk, linen, cotton or bamboo. The wild silk is from the Kalahari and they buy their yarns only in the southern African region.Ibenstein Weavers is the sole company in Namibia which makes hand-woven fabrics. It takes four days for a weaver to mount the warp on the loom. Hundreds of strings with a length of 200 to 500 metres have to be threaded through the delicate ‘reed’ of the loom. During the actual weaving process the weaving thread of up to 1.80 m long is pulled through the entire width of the warp by a shuttle. Selvages are stitched automatically to prevent fraying.
